The rash of symposia published in book form has increasingly disappointed the reading public. Most of the presentations are repetitious of previously published work, the combinations of papers are ragged, and many are not relevant to the title. Not so in this volume for here are serious and profound discussions of psychoanalysis and biology by extraordinarily competent people. Theoretical papers by Miller, Weiner, Rubinstein, Benjamin, Holt and Lewis, and Klein are superb. The operational papers by Oken, Greenfield, Alexander, Speisman, Synder, and Sclesnick represent the best in the field. This is a worthwhile book whose authors have been carefully chosen and whose contents have been carefully edited. The book cannot be reviewed in detail—it contains too much. Nor can it be casually read—it must be studied. But it is worthwhile !
