The Archives of Surgery will publish rolling theme issues in 2012 and 2013. In 2012, the theme will be Building a Surgical Expertise in Informatics. All surgeons are aware of the explosion of new informatics systems in care–from inpatient notes and orders to outpatient visits to registries and surveys. We will solicit manuscripts on any related topic that aids surgeons and their teams of health care providers in providing better care for surgical patients.

In 2013, the theme will be Surgical Care of the Aging Population. Our surgical population is aging as so many patients are living longer and are fit to undergo both minor and major surgical interventions. We want manuscripts describing techniques and approaches that uniquely address the needs of the geriatric patient population in all specialties–general surgery, vascular surgery, surgical oncology, transplantation, cardiac surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery.
