The third edition of this textbook is edited by Carol Scott-Conner, MD, PhD, as a continuation of the previous work of Jameson L. Chassin, MD. Dr Scott-Conner has divided this edition into 14 parts covering 961 pages, 110 chapters, and 222 contributing authors. Beginning with the opening chapter on the concepts of fundamental surgery, the authors have continued this theme throughout the textbook, dealing initially with major surgical concerns such as anatomical dissection, operative exposure, proper closure of incisions, hemostasis, and specific judgment issues.
