Resilience—Back to the Future

Resilience, an individual’s ability to bounce back after adversity or failure, has recently become an important topic in health care because of its inverse relationship to burnout.14 Much has been written about the factors that promote resilience,59 which include self-regulation, realistic optimism, grit, and a strong social network. These factors are vital, but they don’t get to the source of resilience.
