I thank Drs Badruddoja and De Waele for their interest in my article. Since its presentation at the New England Surgical Society in 2005, I have received numerous responses, which range from strongly agreeing to passionately disagreeing with the article. However, I noticed that most of the critique was not directed toward the design or the setup of the article but more with the “idea” that an article is questioning a surgical practice that started more than 100 years ago.
