The present edition of this well known text is a much improved version of its predecessor, 1963 vintage. It is better organized, better illustrated, and more complete. Although "directed to the practicing ophthalmologist," it, nevertheless, is helpful to the plastic surgeon because it clearly describes basic techniques used by his colleagues in ophthalmology for mutually familiar situations; for example, reconstruction of the eyelids following removal of benign and malignant lesions, correction of ectropion and entropion, management of ptosis and orbital fractures, and repair of sockets.

In certain areas, however, the text could be improved. Scar revision is simplistically presented with no comment about Z or W plasty (follow-up photograph at only four weeks proves little). The description of correcting baggy upper and lower lids is inexact with respect to the usual location of protruding orbital fat, and the lower lid incision shown is a poor one.
