Abstract

"This book is based on a conference sponsored by the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, St. Thomas Hospital, Baptist Hospital and Johnson and Johnson held at Nashville, Tennessee, November 6 and 7, 1970." These words on the flyleaf of the book announcing yet another conference on peripheral vascular disease remind us of the dynamic state of the field. The high quality of this conference equals that of the one held at Montefiore Hospital in New York in May 1969, edited by Haimovici, and reviewed in the Archives in June 1971. The Nashville meeting, although distinguished by 38 contributors as opposed to 24 for the New York meeting, has restricted its subject matter to arterial disease only and thus goes more deeply into the field. In addition to the expected discussions of arterial replacements, which dominate any book of this kind, the reader is refreshed to find sections on the effect
