This volume contains the proceedings of the Symposium on the Hand, held at Stanford University, March 25 to 27,1970, and sponsored by the Educational Foundation of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.

Rather than attempting to be a general course in hand surgery, that symposium, with a distinguished international faculty of 26 surgeons, dealt instead with an ample spectrum of different clinical problems.

Benefiting most from this well-written and well-illustrated text will be the surgeon who has a major commitment to the hand. In it he will find considerable information and wisdom about stiff proximal interphalangeal joints, boutonniere deformity, arthritic ulnar drift, prostheses for small joints, nerve injuries, island pedicles, delayed closure and postoperative care of the injured hand, fingertip and flexor tendon trauma, epicondylitis, persistent hand pain, and reconstruction in congenital anomalies and in leprosy.
