This is a book that a house officer needs at his elbow. Although primarily designed for surgeons, it contains much of value for nurses (instruments and operating room routines), physicians' assistants (dressings, placement of sutures), medical students (patient work-up, scrub techniques), and medical house officers (cannulation of arteries and veins). An excellent 11-page tabulation of antibiotics, their indications, dosages, and adverse effects is just one example of many items that all physicians will find useful. This second edition, appearing nine years after the first, is a distinguished successor to its forebear.
