This is the second edition of this excellent book, the first edition of which appeared in 1969, and was reviewed in the Archives (105:660, 1972). Very few changes have been made. Ultrasound, for instance, has been introduced in the assessment of aneurysm size, and a few other modern techniques are mentioned. But in general the length, arrangement, and figures are the same, even to the extent of preserving some procedures, admittedly as alternatives to more modern ones, that to American opinion were of historical interest only, even in the first edition. I refer to such techniques as total body hypothermia in a tub in preparation for operations on the carotid, and to procedures such as wiring for aortic aneurysms.
The high quality is maintained, however, and the volume is again recommended in the strongest possible terms.
