This volume warrants neither praise nor criticism. It provides a representative summation of the current "state of the art" of reconstructive breast surgery and should be on the mandatory reading list of those assuming responsibility for breast problems, but unfamiliar with currently available reconstructive procedures. The chapter bibliographies and photographs are, in general, quite excellent; and the material presented is up to date.

From the point of view of a plastic surgeon, there is too little long-term follow-up, particularly with regard to reduction mammoplasty and correction of breast ptosis; and there is too much personal opinion vs too little scientific data. The volume would be enhanced markedly by the addition of chapters dealing with breast pathology, the physiological aspects of breast deformity, and discussion between the contributors.

In essence, this reviewer feels strongly that the major value of this volume lies in providing an awareness of the role of reconstructive
