Abstract

• A detailed analysis of the multifactorial pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, including endothelial injury, proliferation of intimal smooth muscle cells, the role of the platelet, the role of cholesterol as raw material and irritant, the influence of inflammation, and the participation of lysosomal components, is presented.
