Identification of a Parathyroid Adenoma by Operative Ultrasonography

• During surgery, real-time ultrasound scanning accurately localized a parathyroid adenoma posterior to the superior pole of the right thyroid lobe. This was made feasible because of the ultrasound features of parathyroid tissue and current developments in ultrasound instrumentation.
