It is a pleasure to review this beautiful atlas of vascular surgery by three authors, all acknowledged experts in the field. The senior author, Dr Wylie, is one of the pioneers in vascular surgery who introduced the technique of endarterectomy into the United States in 1951. The work, therefore, speaks with authority from everyday practical experience throughout many years.
Volume 1 covers arteriography and basic techniques in arterial reconstruction, together with a discussion of the specific areas of carotid, proximal cervical, aortoiliac, visceral, and renovascular atherosclerosis and aortic aneurysms. Surgical considerations of atherosclerosis in the arteries of the lower extremities and other conditions in all regions will be presented in volume 2.
The illustrations are in color and are extremely well done. Techniques are clearly illustrated, accurate, and easy to follow and understand. Numerous photographs of operative exposures plus surgical specimens complement the diagrams. The accompanying arteriograms are likewise of
