The format of this volume is that of the well-known College Outline Series that has been in use for many years for different subjects in undergraduate schools. The authors delineate the etiology, pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, and treatment modalities. Using a numbered outline heading, they briefly discuss each topic and give a brief historical reference. The chapters on etiology, symptomatology, diagnosis, course, prognosis, and type of treatment are succinct and fairly complete and are a ready reference source for the medical student or resident. The sections on pathophysiology and morphogenesis are more extensive and detailed but also are somewhat obscure and difficult. The treatment of these topics seems out of place in the outline form followed throughout the rest of the text. These chapters also suffer from the use of non-English terminology, which makes the text awkward.
