This significant document, initially adopted and disseminated in 1986, is remarkable for its message, clarity, and courage. It deserves the same widespread distribution as the Declaration of Helsinki. This clear statement of principle should be widely endorsed internationally by all colleges and federations. It is reasoned and reaffirms the College's commitment to a value system that respects the dignity of their patients.

Credo: The College of Medicine of South Africa 

  1. The College is committed to the maintenance of the highest professional and ethical standards through its primary roles as an educational and postgraduate examining body.

  2. The College is opposed to all forms of discrimination on the grounds of race, religion or sex and believes that such discrimination is incompatible with the ethical practice of medicine.

  3. The College is committed to striving for the improvement of the health of all
