"Bank" blood and freshly drawn blood were infused through Dacron wool and grid filters in order to evaluate the effect of ultra-pore filtration on the coagulation and fibrinolytic mechanisms. The filtration did not cause any alteration of the coagulation or fibrinolytic mechanisms. The grid filter did not remove a significant number of platelets from stored or fresh blood; however, the Dacron filter did remove significant numbers from both types of blood. Filtration did not effect platelet function.
