On the right side of the patient's face, the location of the right depressor anguli oris (DAO) muscle is outlined in marker on the skin. The patient attempts 3 smiles. Next, 1 mL of lidocaine, 1%, is injected into the right DAO muscle. The patient then attempts 3 more smiles, with clear improved elevation of the right oral commissure and more dental show on the right side.
