This phenomenon has been observed in autoimmune connective tissue diseases, including systemic sclerosis, adult and juvenile dermatomyositis, rheumatoid arthritis, and mixed connective tissue disease. It is less commonly associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and even more rarely with subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) and discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE).
