Abstract

One gets the impression from this book that the authors would classify the majority of behavior disorders of children in two groups: (1) those that occur in children with a congenitally defective nervous system who demonstrate their deficiency from birth, the nervous and asthenic types, and (2) those that occur as a result of chronic fatigue and commence after several normal years. It is with the latter group that this study deals.

The book is divided into three parts: (1) the fundamental principles underlying work and fatigue, (2) fatigue and associated factors and (3) the prevention and management of chronic fatigue. In the first part, the normal child is defined, and the methods of estimating normality are discussed. The authors point out that physiologic and psychologic development are related, and that any attempt to force the child into activities beyond its physical and mental development are bound to produce harm.
