Abstract

PART I: A REVIEW OF THE NOMENCLATURE OF THE CEREBELLUM  In any discussion of the cerebellum, one of the greatest difficulties is to refer to the individual lobes in such a manner that the meaning is clear. Even among brain anatomists today there is confusion. The reason for this is that the various authorities have approached the study of the cerebellum from different angles, and have adopted individual nomenclatures to express their particular views.The first effort to bring uniformity out of the early diverse descriptions of the cerebellum was made in 1895, when the "Basle Nomina Anatomica"1 attempted to establish some order in the general confusion that existed in the terminology of the central nervous system.
