In this book the daughter of Theodor Meynert gives her reminiscences of her parents and the social and university setting in which they moved. The result is not so much an account of the medical and scientific work of the period as a story of a young girl's growing up in the home and times of Theodor Meynert. The memories of the personalities and events of the garden of the asylum, and later of the private home of the family, the contacts and anecdotes of the more humble and the more illustrious members of the home and university, and of the artistic, literary and cultural Vienna of the late seventies and eighties up to 1892 are offered as they figured in the reminiscing of an interested and observant daughter of a man prominent in the intellectual life of the time.
