This monograph represents an attempt to understand the mechanisms and clinical characteristics of the various types of fainting in the light of present knowledge. While the author hopes to provide a sound scientific basis for the understanding of syncope, it is his goal to present the subject in a form that will be useful to the practicing physician, who is faced with the practical problems of diagnosis and treatment. The psychosomatic aspects of fainting are mentioned, but strangely neglected.
