Comprehensive textbooks in hematology are rare, yet they are needed for one-stop all-inclusive learning for students and practitioners alike. It is therefore refreshing to note the arrival of the 6th edition of one of the most trusted reference textbooks in hematology. The series began in 1972 and has undergone successive updates, the last 5 years ago. Much of what has happened in the intervening years is well incorporated into this latest edition. Updates mostly concern newer understanding in molecular genetics, pathogenesis, classification, and treatment of all diseases in hematology. Text is balanced between benign and malignant hematology. Despite the inclusion of new information, the size of the book is relatively unchanged because 10 chapters are now integrated into other chapters.
