To the Editor: The Editorial
by Dr Matheson1 on the PPE of student athletes provided a
good overview of the general inadequacies of the "sports physical"
and urged clinicians to improve the quality of the PPE. The author also
suggested that preventive services, such as an assessment of lifestyle
behaviors that are amenable to intervention, be included as part of the
PPE. The reported development of a computer-based World Wide Web risk
assessment approach to obtain this information is intriguing and may
provide accurate information on health risk behaviors.2
