To the Editor: The retrospective
study by Dr D'Amico and colleagues1 offers the first
published attempt to compare treatment methods for localized prostate
cancer using similar outcomes. However, as pointed out,2
problems comparing radiation and surgical literature arise from the
definition of failure. The data of D'Amico et al are an affirmation
that all modalities are effective for localized disease, yet the
authors focus on the brachytherapy component, despite acknowledging the
inherent limitations of their study.
