To the Editor: While the vaccines described in the article by Dr Jefferson1 are new, the method for administering deltoid injections is not. I was therefore surprised that the photograph in this article showed the clinician administering the vaccine not wearing gloves. Furthermore, the surprisingly calm patient is lending a "helping hand" to hold up his shirt sleeve. This "helping hand" is dangerously near the needle's path and is, therefore, ill-advised. In light of these 2 objections, the illustration should be updated to reflect proper technique.
