To the Editor: The article by Dr Mundinger
and colleagues1 concluded that nurse practitioners
with the "same authority, responsibilities, productivity and administrative
requirements, and patient population" had "comparable outcomes to primary
care physicians." However, its implication that primary care given independently
by nurse practitioners is equivalent to that provided by physicians cannot
be concluded from this study.
