In Reply: Dr Giesecke makes a strong case for the need to increase investments in research into the prevention and management of injuries. It is important to note that estimates of expenditures per DALY for selected health-related research topics in 2020 assumed no increase in funding for research between 1990 and 2020. Changes in expenditures per DALY emphasize projected changes in the magnitude of burden for the different conditions.
