In Reply: The articles in the theme issue on
opportunities for medical research serve to highlight important discoveries
in biomedical science and forecast major advances likely to occur during the
early 21st century.1 However, the issue
was not intended to include all research areas or address every aspect related
to the application of future research discoveries, such as some of those noted
by the authors of these letters.
