To the Editor: Dr Fontanarosa and Ms Flanagin1 cautioned about release of preliminary information
to the public prior to its publication in scientific journals. We strongly
agree with their concerns and offer an example of how premature dissemination
of study results can lead to both misinterpretation of the scientific inferences
and inappropriate public reaction.
