To the Editor: In their review of the hospitalist movement, Drs Watcher and Goldman1 go to some lengths to argue that a hospitalist practice cannot be financially viable without external subsidies. I assume that the authors refer to their experience in the academic setting, which does not reflect the reality of the health care marketplace.
