The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) missed the deadline for drafting regulations for the Physician Payment Sunshine Act, and Sen Chuck Grassley (R, Iowa) and Sen Herb Kohl (D, Wis) want to know why.
The Sunshine Act requires public disclosure of financial relationships between physicians and the pharmaceutical, medical device, and biologics industries. Manufacturers and group purchasing organizations are required to collect payment data beginning January 1, 2012, and to start reporting to the government on March 31, 2013, and to the public on September 30, 2013.
