Update: A 52-Year-Old Woman With Obesity: Review of Bariatric Surgery

JAMA. 2011;306(21):2375. doi:10.1001/jama.2011.1793

In a Clinical Crossroads article published in September 2009,1 Christina Wee, MD, MPH, discussed the consequences of bariatric surgery, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding. She also discussed their effects on weight loss, comorbidities, psychological function, and overall quality of life. She discussed factors that Ms J, a 52-year-old woman with severe obesity, depression, anxiety, and osteoarthritis, might want to consider as she decided whether to have bariatric surgery.
