In an unprecedented move, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has overruled an decision by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to allow over-the-counter sales of the emergency contraceptive Plan B One-Step to females younger than 17 years, sparking criticism that the move was politically motivated. The product is currently available only by prescription to this group.
