To the Editor.—In the article by Dr Gillman and colleagues1 I was puzzled by the fact that the energy intake was almost twice as high in quintile 5 compared with quintile 1, yet both the body mass index and the physical activity index were the same for both groups. It would appear that there is either an error in recording intake or there is a significant difference in metabolism in the 2 groups.
