In Reply.—I understand that the recent interest in collective bargaining by resident physicians stems from the merger of BCH and BUMCH. As I mentioned in my article, we had reported on these events in an earlier Resident Forum.1

The American Medical Association and its Resident Physicians Section wholeheartedly support the ability of residents to collectively bargain with their institutions. We recognize that our approach differs from that of the CIR; however, we believe that the goal of increasing the resident voice within a training institution is one that we share with the HOA/CIR. We will continue to work for the ability of residents to collectively negotiate with their institutions through house staff organizations.
