In Reply.—It was an unfortunate oversight
not to indicate in the legend of Table 3 that the algorithm for screening
patients with pigmented lesions was adapted from the previously published
work of Weinstock et al,1 which was cited
in the text. The adaptations are based on my own experience in teaching primary
care physicians to screen patients with pigmented lesions and represent hundreds
of hours of time interacting with many primary care physicians. The ABCD rule2 was also used in preparing this algorithm and was
not cited in the legend but rather in the text.
