Abstract

ARMY 

56th PORTABLE SURGICAL HOSPITAL  The 56th Portable Surgical Hospital was recently recognized for superior and meritorious service while attached to the veteran 33d Infantry Division during the rugged fighting in the Benguet Mountains of northern Luzon. Commanded by Major Evan C. Reese of Stroudsburg, Pa., the 56th Portable Surgical Hospital was awarded the Meritorious Service Unit Plaque by Major Gen. P. W. Clarkson, commanding the 33d (Prairie) Division, which liberated Baguio. The citation stated that "the excellent care given patients has resulted in the saving of many lives and in returning many casualties to a full duty status. The 56th Portable Surgical Hospital achieved and maintained a high standard of military discipline throughout the entire Baguio campaign."
