A Manual for Diabetic Patients

The authors' purpose primarily is to familiarize the patient with his disorder so that the manual will serve as a guide supplementing the instructions he receives as a patient. However, there is the possible objection that the manual may be too technical and confusing for the average patient. Thus in the preface the authors raise the problem of diets—high fat, low carbohydrate and their so-called adequate carbohydrate diet—a discussion which tends to give a wrong impression to those not familiar with the authors' published data. The reader is puzzled first by the technical discussion and second by the impression that the authors of this book have a quarrel with the doctors advocating high fat diets. The lay reader or patient is not interested in such controversal problems of scientific men.
