—In the chairman's address titled "Evolution of a Specialty" by William J. Shaw, MD, published Nov 9 (186:575-577), the third paragraph in the right-hand column on page 575 begins, "The history of specialty promotion in the US actually may be dated from the able efforts of Franklin Murphy of Chicago, who... organized the American College of Surgeons." Morris Fishbein, MD, has written that "Franklin H. Martin" is the correct name.
