Abstract

To the Editor:—  The article on "Stinging Insects— A Threat to Life," by J. H. Shaffer (JAMA177:473 [Aug. 19] 1961) is timely and interesting, but chiggers are not insects. They are parasitic larval mites of the genus Trombicula, order Acarina (ticks and mites).
