The authors have brought together from widely scattered sources a large amount of material bearing on esophageal tumors in this large monograph which is their contribution toward a series of monographs on neoplastic disease being published by a large group of British medical scientists. The monograph on esophageal tumors examines the mortality from this disease in 18 separate countries with a wide discussion of the factors predisposing to the development of neoplastic disease in this organ. The pathology and natural history of the tumors are well covered. While the diagnosis and treatment chapters contain little new they do gather, in concentrated form, the material that has been available in the last few years in the important surgical literature with the particular imprint of the authors apparent in their discussion.
