The American artist Gilda Snowden (1954- ) grew up in Detroit, Michigan, attended Cass Technical High School, and received a bachelor of fine arts and master of fine arts in painting from Wayne State University. She teaches in the Department of Fine Arts at the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, and is gallery director of the Detroit Repertory Theatre. Snowden's works have been exhibited throughout the United States, as well as in Mexico, Canada, and West Africa. Her Self-portrait (cover) is one of a series of self-portraits begun in the late 1980s.
