Xenophobic attacks on migrants by vigilante gangs are increasing in Athens and others areas of Greece, but the police and judiciary systems have failed to adequately address the problem, a situation documented in a report by Human Rights Watch, Hate on the Streets: Xenophobic Violence in Greece (http://tinyurl.com /c7z6ejl). According to the group, the deep economic crisis in Europe has strained the systems that could help stem the violence.
