First responders have a new resource to guide the administration of psychological first aid in the event of a disaster: a smartphone app created jointly by the Department of Veterans Affairs National Center for PTSD, the Department of Defense (DOD) National Center for Telehealth and Technology, and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.
The app is designed as a reference to guide trained responders in providing psychological first aid for adults, children, and families in the event of a disaster. The content was adapted from the DOD's Psychological First Aid Field Operations Guide. The guide and free online training in psychological first aid, as well as the app, are available at the Veterans Affairs website (http://tinyurl.com/8g9j9x8).
