For several years, Victor McKusick has published annually a scholarly summary of medical genetics in the Journal of Chronic Diseases. Now he has put 3 of these summaries together in book form. Not only has the author achieved distinction in other fields of medical investigation such as spectrophonocardiography, but, employing his inquisitive mind and critical nature, he has availed himself of the splendid opportunities for collecting large masses of material, thus adding appreciably to our understanding of connective tissue diseases. Here he has summarized recent contributions to the field of medical genetics. Because this field is growing so rapidly, its current state cannot be put into a textbook fast enough—by the time such a text were written and printed, it would be out of date; a scholarly, critically annotated bibliography with much new information has to serve instead. Medical Genetics 1958-1960 is an admirable source book and a necessary reference
