Dr. William G. Thurman has been appointed chairman of the department of pediatrics at Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases in New York City. He succeeds Dr. Harold W. K. Dargeon who is retiring after more than 27 years at the hospital.

Before going to New York, Thurman was associate professor of pediatrics at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.

The Stanford University School of Medicine has added two new associate professors to its psychiatry department faculty.

They are Dr. William C. Dement and Dr. Herbert Leiderman. Dement, whose appointment begins Dec. 1, has done research on the functioning of the mind during sleep and dreaming. He was associated with the department of psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.

Leiderman's appointment becomes effective June 1, 1963. He is an associate in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a career investigator for the U.S. Public Health Service. Leiderman has
