During the last century, as the population of individuals 65 years and older has steadily increased, so has the appreciation of their medical needs. As individuals with psychiatric disorders age, the prevalence of mental illness in the elderly will continue to increase.
Essentials of Geriatric Psychiatry attempts to educate health care professionals and psychiatrists interested in the diagnosis and management of elderly persons with psychiatric conditions. The book consists of a preface and 20 chapters divided into 4 sections. It is based on The Textbook of Geriatric Psychiatry, also edited by Dan Blazer and David Steffens. In the past I have found the textbook to be an excellent resource for comprehensive review.
