Microarray analysis can help identify genetic causes of stillbirth, according to a large study funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).
To evaluate whether microarray analysis is more likely than karyotype analysis to detect genetic abnormalities, researchers analyzed placental or fetal tissue from 532 stillbirths delivered over 2.5 years at 59 hospitals in 5 areas of the country (Reddy UM et al. N Engl J Med. 2012;367:2185-2193).
